New Pot – Flowers and Yellow

I discovered this applique technique just before finishing the course and I wish I had had more time to explore it further. I also developed a new style of lip with this pot by thinning and cracking the dry clay. I had previously discovered that glaze Antique Pewter produces a green verdigris colour when mixed with ordinary white glaze, so I applied it over white glaze to produce the green colours on this pot.

New pot – White and Verdigris

I used Antique Pewter and white glazes to produce the verdigris effect, which on this particular pot is more of an aquamarine colour than the mossy green that I always seemed to get thereafter.

On a windy April day with sunny spells we watched Marsh Harriers through our binoculars.

I admit I’m getting too much mileage out of old stuff recently (this is from 1995) but I am posting this to set the bar; I really want to get back into regular practice with water colours.

This 37cm high coil pot was made in soft clay in under 2 hours. Coils were dashed together with a wooden tool and textures developed more in the top 1/3 of the height. A semi-metallic glaze was applied in 100% and watered down proportions.
