Left Hand Draw, Right Hand Draw

Inspired by fat lava

I’ve been looking at lots of mid-century ‘fat lava’ pieces recently… and a Sgrafo Modern item from my collection (pictured).   I’ve also found myself quite taken again with one of my own pieces. There is something about the slightly lumpy off-putting texture of this vase that works really well with smooth furniture.  It’s supposed to look a bit like a mushroom!

Photos from Raasay

I just realised I haven’t blogged these photographs of Raasay in Scotland…

Objects from the deep past

Sketched a collection of items from the Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge at an evening event ‘The Art of Pure Observation of Things’. Items include a Brachiopod, a sea urchin and copper ore.

2015 in review

OK I was not expecting to find my WordPress stats report very interesting, but hey! I was totally charmed by the WordPress report and also that people from 68 countries have viewed my blog, particularly from Brazil or the USA, where I have never been.  Thank you to everyone for the support.  May 2016 bring wondrous things to you.

A still life at Beaujeu

Meadow flowers with ivy and olive sprigs, a bowl with a river smoothed pebble and a piece of irradiated quartz. Watercolur and bodycolour on paper

IMAG4322

River washed trees and surrounding hills.  Watercolour on paper.  It was so hot that I had to load the brush heavily with paint. The paint dried on the paper quickly leaving sharp edges.

This is from 1997 when I was still at school; I was always discouraged from this graphic style by teachers so I don’t have much around.

Scottish Landscapes

Reminiscing about my time at University while thinking about new horizons. These two different landscapes were both captured while studying for my degree at the University of St Andrews.
